I’m in Your Head and Everybody Knows

My look from Friday–I felt awesome in this look!

Not usually one for collarless blouses like this one, but this particular one is so flattering and chic, and tucked into these pants with a belt like I did here I felt very put-together.

Obviously these are my statement pants that I love.  The look was very color-coordinated and matchy with the pants (the mint bag with gold hardware, gold jewelry, and I kept warm with a mint J. Crew cardigan), but what makes it not too matchy is the pop of red in the lip.  Classic chic.  It’s a good thing to note–a pop of color can work in an outfit that does have other color, not just with neutrals, as long as the rest of the color palette is pretty simple and very different from the pop of other color you’re adding.

Love this necklace with the layers of gold chain, faux pearls and rhinestones with this–adds edge into the mix while also having a sophisticated element.

This new bag is also a total fave. Great size, classic but in a fun, trendy color.

What I wore:

  • J. Crew Collection Pants
  • J. Crew Factory Store top
  • Boutique 9 flats
  • Forever 21 necklace and bag
  • Earrings from Macy’s (?)
  • Bracelet I took from my mom 🙂
  • My Aunt Florence’s watch, freshly repaired.
  • Bare Minerals lipstick in Moxie

Title is a great lyric from one of my all-time favorite songs, Supergirl by Saving Jane.

Have a great week all!

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

Pics from a lovely lunch this past Sunday with my girlfriends.  Love these ladies.  Girlfriends are the absolute best.  These gals are Pascal, Sammy, and Rachel, and I have some other awesome girls I’m really close with too.  I miss them all when I’m at school!

I love an effortless but stylish look like this for a fun weekend day.  I’m really excited about these new Current Elliot distressed, striped boyfriend jeans.  They’re going to look great with lots of things.  I am also a big fan of the half-tuck styling trick, where you tuck a top in in the front and not the back.  It looks put-together and effortless; less stuffy and more comfortable than a full tuck.

Let’s talk about these flats.  They have a heart on one foot and an envelope on the other–love letter!  They’re from this new brand I’m obsessed with and have been wanting to write about, DV8 (as in deviate, get it?) by popular shoe label Dolce Vita.  Dolce Vita is really great about making their shoes accessible–this is their second diffusion line (joining DV Dolce Vita) and they even did a line for Target a few years back!  This line is their best yet though, if you ask me.  It’s targeted at a younger crowd, consists of faux-leather and non-leather shoes (yay!)  and, as this pair shows, is totally playful and whimsical.  Some other great pieces from the line include flat espadrilles printed to look like a watermelon, yellow canvas smiley-face printed ballet flats, sassy high-tops and slingback flats with oversize bows on the back.  I also have a pair of canvas ballet flats by them with stripes of different bold, colorful prints, but they are significantly less comfortable than these–they rubbed the backs of my heels and need some stretching out.  Still, very excited about this line and will look for more by them for sure!  You can find the line on delias.com or at Nordstrom.

Also got this adorable red studded bangle at Gap on super sale this week.  It’s a great fun, edgy pop of color.

Thanks to my girlies for being on my blog this week!

What I wore:

  • Halogen tee from Nordstrom
  • Current Elliot jeans
  • DV8 by Dolce Vita flats
  • BGBGMAXAZRIA earrings and bag
  • Gap bangle
  • Express jacket
  • Marc by Marc Jacobs sunglasses

Don’t think I need to tell you where the title’s from.  Thanks to Sammy for suggesting it!

Aria Montgomery Style Inspiration

Been a bit under the weather and on spring break this past week (hence how tired I look in this pic) so I mostly wore more relaxed outfits, but this was a stylish fave from the week.  Following my new style motto “What would Aria Montgomery wear?” (as in Aria Montgomery from Pretty Little Liars).  I am obsessed with her bold clothes, accessories, and crazy combinations that she somehow makes work.  And we share a love of leopard print, statement jewelry and Betsey Johnson.  I feel like this look is very her and also very me.

I got this dress from a great new boutique on Southport in Chicago called Hot Mama.  It’s totally going to be my new go-to casual dress–I love fit and flare dresses, and this is a comfy t-shirt style with the perfect, versatile leopard print and a cool exposed zipper in the back.  It will look great with other neutrals or with pops of color (like here), with statement jewelry, with belts, and under vests and jackets.  This is sure to be the first of many outfits with it to come.

This bold green Betsey Johnson belt complimented the dress really well and defined my waist.  A favorite long Forever 21 pendant, featuring a teal cameo with a bow on it, was another fun pop of color.

Although it’s not pictured I carried my Stella McCartney Falabella bag with this look and wore a taupe faux-leather jacket from Express when I was chilly.

What I wore:

  • Allison Joy dress from Hot Mama Boutique
  • Betsey Johnson belt
  • Madden Girl boots
  • Forever 21 necklace
  • Vince Camuto earrings
  • Bracelet I took from my mom 🙂
  • American Apparel tights

Happy St. Patrick’s Day and almost spring!

Friends are the best accessory

pascalandi

layered gold bracelets The look I rocked at a basketball game Sunday.  Go Bulls! Went with my adorable friend Pascal who is featured in the picture.  We had a great time! Since it was a basketball game, I wanted to wear something cool with a nod to the athletic, and what better than my crazy glam wedge sneakers, shredded jeans and big hoop earrings?

I love the simplicity of this outfit that lets the bold accessories stand out. I also love layering jewelry, and the mixed shape and textures of these two bracelets added simple but noticeable interest. My bag isn’t featured in the pic, because it wasn’t a huge part of the outfit, but it’s this great new mint green quilted bag with gold hardware that I got from Forever 21.  Didn’t have a black bag with gold hardware with me, which is what I would have normally paired with this look.

What I wore:

  • J. Crew Factory Store top
  • Rag & Bone jeans
  • Betsey Johnson sneakers
  • Francesca’s Collections belt
  • BCBGMAXAZRIA earrings
  • Bracelets:  circles from Hot Mama Boutique, other one stolen from my mom 🙂

With Lupita N’yongo in the world, I don’t really need to make an Oscars best-dressed list, but here’s one anyway.

The top five:

Far and away #1:

Lupita freakin’ N’yongo in Prada.

lupita nyongo at oscars in blue prada gown

This.  Girl.  Smart, talented, beatiful, and a sense of style like nobody’s business.  She’s look flawless at every awards show this season (Ralph Lauren at the Globes, and that Gucci at the SAGs), but she blew all my expectations out of the water with this incredible pale blue Prada gown.  The pleats.  The beautiful color against her beautiful skin.  That plunge that she has just the right size chest to pull off.  AND THE ACCESSORIES.

Let’s talk about the accessories:  They’re personal, showing an effortlessly beautiful girl who loves to have fun with fashion.  Her gold cuff was a snake, and she had a delicate little gold ring (layered with a larger blue bauble) that was a frog.  Quirky touches like these made her look all the more unique and perfect.  And the headband.  It’s like a tiara crowing her the princess of the Oscars.  So different, so beautiful.  I heard them call her “Lupitarella” on E!.  That’s just about perfect, but not as perfect as this look.  I think this will be an Oscar look that I will remember for a long time as an iconic, all-time faves–adding to Cate Blanchett’s Givenchy and Mila Kunis’s Elie Saab from past Oscars.

2. Jennifer Garner in Oscar de la Renta

jennifergarner

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.  I would love to wear this dress!  When she walked the fringe moved in such a cool way.  The cut with the spaghetti straps makes it so simple and classically elegant, but the sparkle and fringe are to-die-for fun.  Her wavy hair is amazing, as is her stack of diamond bangles.  You can also see she’s rocking MAJOR silver platforms!  I love the monochrome, for sure the way to go.  Nothing I would change about this look, definitely a fave of the night.

3.  Anna Kendrick in J. Mendel

annakendrickoscars

Here’s another lady whose accessories took her look to a whole new level.  Her red lucite clutch and edgy earrings, not to mention the little details (bows?) on her heels give this dress even more personality.  I love the top and the sheer panels, and her hair and makeup look great.

4. Emma Watson in Vera Wang

emmawatsonoscars

Wow.  Part of me feels like she could have gone for something bigger and bolder for the Oscars, but I mean, this is incredibly beautiful and unique.  I would love to wear this gown–the somewhat sheer bodice almost looks like the world’s coolest tee shirt.  It’s classic and comfortable with an edgy twist, complemented by that cool, piecey pony, perfect red lip. and her killer collection of silver rings.  Beautiful.  What a cool girl.

5. Chrissy Teigen in Monique Lhuillier

Chrissy Teigen in her floral Monique Lhuillier Oscars gown

I  love a floral gown, and the combo of pink and black is always fun.  The cut is perfect, I love loose, wavy hair on red carpets, and those diamond drops?!  Amazing, gorgeous, so flattering on her face and the perfect jewelry for this gown.  The cut of the gown is great, and I love how you can tell it was designed with comfort in mind–the slightly high-low hemline surely makes it easier to walk in, and it’s got POCKETS!!!!

Other great bits of fashion from the evening:

Kerry Washington’s hair, makeup, and cuffs.

kerrywashoscars

Maybe it’s that pregnant glow, but Kerry looks radiant.  The darker lip and half-up hair are departures for her, I love their edgy, relaxed beauty.  I also love the look of matched cuffs on both wrists, and thin diamond ones are fresh and fancy.

Amy Adam’s and Cate Blachett’s earrings

Amy Adams in blue and red Tiffany&Co. earrings86th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

I love the fun colors of Amy’s statement earrings and that they’re from a classic brand, Tiffany & Co.  As for Cate’s, I have no idea how she wore such heavy earrings all night!  From afar they seem to match her gorgeous sheer-and-white dress, but up close they were a beautiful mix of pastel stones (pale blue/green, lilac, and pale pink).  Cate really knows what’s up when it comes to fashion.
